Match Reports
1st v 2nd, a game neither team could afford to lose in the battle for the title and automatic promotion. Unfortunately the draw in the end could damage both teams title hopes with Detica waiting to pounce. The game was a credit to the league, two teams playing good football in a friendly but competitive spirit. The tackles were hard but fair and any questionable decisions were settled amicably.
NTL started the stronger, pushing us back for the first 5-10 mins as AC took time to settle. But with a few changes to the team this was no surprise, as the half went on we came more into the game and started to make chances. With Matt B. upfront supported by Phil and Matt C, there were plenty of attacking options. There were a few chances at either end, with both keepers making good saves. Allianz Cornhill made the breakthrough as Andy James bundled the ball into the net after a good passing move. From here we took the game to NTL, using the substitutions to good effect. There were several good chances, but the NTL keeper kept the scoreline down to 1-0 at half time.
The second half started with both teams retaining possession well but not many chances created, eventually we managed to create a few opportunities but somehow the NTL keeper kept us out using with some wonderfully improvised keeping. We should have given ourselves a more comfortable lead with the chances we had, but were punished when NTL hit us on the break. We seemed to have it under control initially but didn-t clear allowing them to equalise.
We continued to push on but every time we broke through the NTL defence the keeper was equal to the challenge and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
It was a disappointing result as I feel we had the chances to win the match, but has ensured that both teams should still have plenty to play for when we meet in the last game of the season. Despite what was at stake for both teams the game was played in an excellent spirit and we-ll be looking forward to the return in 3 weeks time.
