Another close tussle with Sports Shop and we just did enough to sneak a win and a place in the top league again next season. We-ve struggled this season to get going, but have managed to improve things defensively which is giving us a chance (it also helps having such a good keeper). We had plenty of chances in the first half but the Sports Shop keeper managed to keep everything out and we went in at the break 1-0 down after a great strike from Steve Birchall.
We soon got back in the game in the second half with a great goal with 3 slick passes from back to front and Matt B finishing it off. Both teams had chances to take the lead with both keepers making more crucial saves. We managed to break down the left and Matt C found Matt B who backheeled it in the corner to give us the lead. Sports Shop pushed on but we defended well and restricted the chances, we managed to get a third when Matt B played me in and my attempt to place it in the bottom corner ended up going through the keepers legs. Sports Shop still didn-t give in but we managed to keep them out and gain the win we needed for promotion. The game showed just how close the league has been this season, the teams are all a very similar standard. We need to get back to our form of two years ago if we-re going to compete next season. Thanks Sports Shop for another good game, good luck for the last few games of the season.
