Sparta Farnham (0) 0 - 8 (2) APC Rangers

The scoreline does not really reflect the effort we put into this one with only five players but eight nil it was and that is what the record books will show.

After trying everyone on the squad list for the 48hrs before the game we only managed to scrape together five players which left us with very little hope of a result against league leaders APC Rangers who have only lost once in the league this season, albeit to us early on.

The only saving grace of the five we had were that it was a well balanced mix of defenders and midfielders and Ryan was once again called upon to don the gloves, something he is probably better at than most people who call themselves goalkeepers officially. For a midfielder, he is a rock between the sticks and kept things respectable with a string of great saves all game long.

Obviously being a man light, we were chasing the ball all game long and never enjoyed any spells of possession. Our tactic was basically to absorb as much pressure as we could and maybe break when possible. The first half went well and the 0-2 scoreline at half time was entirely reflective of how the match had gone.

The second half was a very similar affair and with the score at 0-4 after 50 minutes, that would have been a much fairer result. However, we decided to try and push for a goal and with Ben and Andy regularly leaving their defensive duties behind, it opened up at the back and APC capitalised.

All four outfield players had half-chances to score, with possibly the best one falling to Lasty late on but composure and ultimately talent let him down and he blazed wide.

Well played APC who are a top bunch of lads and 100% fair. Looks like they will be heading for the bright lights of the Premiership next season and we wish them luck up there.

Everyone from Sparta worked hard for the full 60 minutes and never gave up despite the late deluge of goals. Top effort lads, with that workrate we should survive Div 1 and maybe even notch up a cup run. Next week we play Boca in the Junior Cup QF which is huge for us given that the league is all about survival now.

It is never easy playing with only 5 men but Sparta deserve a lot of credit for giving it a decent go. Where do you get your energy levels from lads ? I was knackered after 10 minutes and I was in the team of six ! In all seriousness, once we started scoring the game was never in doubt. Well done Sparta on your efforts and good luck for the rest of the season.
