Ah, football. Once more we suckle at your energetic teat. Ironically starved of the beautiful game during a terrible World Cup, this evening marked the first bit of action the majority of the squad had experienced in quite some time.

A host of absentees - especially those that could play in goal - meant that changes were made. Trowers donned the gloves and new guy Dan made his debut. Fat Jack went up top on reputation rather than form and much energy was expected of our midfield pairing of Mike and Mark. Nader rounded the side out as a bare six looked like all we were going to get to face the horde.

We started brightly. Our passing game clicked from the offset and the energy was good. Of course, we were painfully aware that we had no subs so maybe this was encouraging people to pass rather than just run at people.

Azza in the opposition sticks had a blinder, thwarting both Jacko and Marky Lambert on many many occasions. In fact it was the newly arrived Pigeon who showed everyone how it should be done by rifling in from distance.

Jacko finally broke his duck but not before a missed clearance attempt from Nadir put them in and allowed them to equalise.

2 a piece at the break as another unlucky deflection found the bottom corner of our net.

Second half and it appeared that we were the fitter side. A couple of goals straight from the off really helped and looked like they knocked the wind out of the oppo a bit. The first was a dodgy own goal and the second resulted from some opportunistic poaching.

A brace for Day with Marks Lambert and Jackson also nabbing an extra one each meant for a decent full time haul. A special mention for Trowers who clearly could have got a hattrick if he hadn-t shanked the thing over the bar from barely a yard out. Several times.

Well played the Codies and it-s good to be back.
