AT LAST!

WE WON

Three well taken, poached goals, from Ben, John and Kalvin saw get a win at last. It was good to be playing NTL again after so many seasons and we were reminded of their hard working ethics.

The game was free flowing and played with a fair, competetive spirit. For once, we really worked hard for each other and more than once it was really bizarre to see ALL Barnstoneworths players marking at set peices! The first goal came mid-way during the first half as Ben was on hand to knock in a good cross from Trev. We then had to wait until well into the second half for our next. It seemed as though tonights game would follow the previous pattern of letting the lead slip. A nervy, for the supporters any way, 15 mins passed until Johnny replaced Kieron and found himself in front of an open goal. An intelligent move and pass from Mike allowed Johnny to get our second. This was key to both teams. With five mins to go, Johnny again faced NTL's goal and his shot was pushed out to Kalvin. Although some 10 yards from goal, he cooly side-footed into the empty net.

The goals were only part of the story, the passed to the scorers, the movement off the ball and the sheer hard work put in by the entire squad gave us our first win. It would be churlish of me not to mention the part played by NTL, they gave us a hard game and until the second goal went in the result was never certain. They were unlucky to have met us on a night when everybody was on the same wavelenght. Special mention to Matt, in goal, and Dan as both these lads had to be exceptionally sharp to prevent an NTL equaliser.
