Team Kit
Team News
We await appearances from Esteban and Russ this winter season. The other 12 have rotated nicely and all chipped in superbly.
Unfortunately Mark Anderson and Mark Pateman are both on the injury list, but we should be getting some new blood at a good time.
The quetion of us getting a kit has been raised...
Background
Athletico Rovers is comprised of a random group of blokes. From the humble beginnings of losing our first game 17-2, we-re now in our 2nd season and getting better all the time. We-ve become a very organised team that others are finding hard to break down, and our possession football has really come on. A couple of extra players joining at the end of the 1st season/ beginning of the second has enhanced the squad.
Also cheap skates who play in orange bibs.
A guide to our boys:
Chris Witt (Manager): Goalie - lazy plodder turned keeper. And starting to enjoy the role. Enjoys shouting. Aspire to throwing the ball in opposing goal (whether it counts or not).
Mark Bennett (Asst Manager): -Left- - versatile fella with experience from the Real United days. Never gets beaten and never afraid to pull the trigger. Claims to be both-footed (yet to be verified).
Tom -bites-your-ankles- Kingston: Left back - most improved player of our first season. Really tenacious defender, who probably really p!sses off opponents by never giving an inch. Has aspirations to get forward more. We-ll see about that. Has developed telepathic connection with Raymondo.
Ray -smokey- Lowe: Right-back - miracle of a man. Smokes before and after games (like my hero Socrates), is just over 40 and probably the quickest of our bunch. Composed defender and excellent distributer and reader of a game. Rarely gives the ball away. Moans a bit.
Martyn Pink: Right-back/ mid - a jolly good egg! Solid all round game. Very composed at the back and starts a lot of moves, striding out of defense like a young Franz Beckenbauer. Also chips in in attack, scoring some blinders in the last few games - condender for goal of the season, but we probably won-t remember his goals by the end of the season.
Sean -Scanners- Scannell: left-sided roamer - whole-hearted left footer, who plays a strong holding midfield role and sneaks forward to score a few. Bit of eye for goal has our scanners. Goes -woooo- when he scores, and forced me to fork out £4.99 on some goalie gloves...
Stevie G Glaysher: midfield - midfield powerhouse and arguably David Beckham look-a-like. Probably has less female admirers. Has superb touch and movement. Drifts past opponents like they-re not there and a real team player. Couldn-t soot for sh!t last week.
Russell Bradshaw: defence - Regular in our first season, but we await first appearance of this winter season, due to the demands of the city job/ commute.
Rob Goodfellow: anywhere - postie recruit from the summer season. Plays any position well and a real handful for opponents. Excellent passer-and mover, who brings in team mates with clever passes. Likely to be goalie job-sharer with me (hurrah!).
Esteban Aczel: midfield/ forward - gets the texts and is thinking about turning out one night (come on Este, you lazy b*stard) . Loves Lionel Messi and strangely looks a bit like him! Argentine maestro with mesmerising close control.
Mark Anderson: midfield/ forward - a real find of our summer 09 season. -Little Mark- is at the heart of a lot of our attacks, with some really intricate flicks, backheels, stepovers and other flash stuff. Battling Raf for top scorer, but sadly on our injury list for a little while. Prone to the odd strop.
Steve Hale: midfield - very strong all round player who works tirelessly to win the ball back then drive forward with it. Plays an excellent passing game linking up well with anyone. Scores his share of goals too.
Mark Pateman: midfield/ forward - a new boy for winter 09/10 and a great find. Unfortunately now crocked for a little while, Mark P has many attributes - particularly sound in holding the ball up and bringing others in and dribbling like Diego. Will score many for us I hope.
Raf -the assassin- Kupczac: forward - single-minded striker with a powerful right peg. Eyes firmly on the Athletico top scorer prize, as well as the upper-end of the overall list. Raf-s all-round game continues to develop and Raf-s made several assists. Aside from the classic strikers goals Raf has scored from a few picturebook strikes this season.
